It is said that....
The tiny cottage by the slipway was occupied in 1840 by the
MacKenzies. One day, Kenneth MacKenzie was lost at sea but Janet,
his wife, would not believe it. So she put a light into the
cottage window to guide his boat back home. From then on she
did so night after night for twelve years but Kenneth would
not return. Anyway, Janet MacKenzie was given a grant of £
20,00 by the Commissioners because the light was of great assistance
to any boats coming into the harbour.
