Muse
The band was formed in 1997 by 3 childhood friends who
played together since about 1994 more or less seriously
under various band names.

The three guys from Teignmouth,
Devon/England have been delivering the most innovative rock
music I have come across for a very, very long time.
It's not the average sound - call it diet - you are used
to listen to on the radio and it is definitely neither easy
listening nor easy going pop stuff. So what?
It's huge, it's anthemic, sometimes even heavy, epic, exciting,
powerful, breathtaking.
Words fail me to describe this phenomenal music, it just
blew me away. Not instantly though. I needed some time and
several listens to really get into it. But once you are
willing to let yourself in for it, give it 2 or 3 listens
(at high volume :-)), undisturbed by anything else, and
if it works, be prepared to become hopelessly addicted.
There's nothing comparable out there and the skills of Matt
Bellamy seem to be inexhaustible. He is a real genious as
songwriter, singer, guitarist and piano player.
The music is often described as alternative rock, progressive
rock with influences of classical music, funk, electronica,
heavy metal and most recently als Space Rock.
My favourite album has to be the 2003 release "Absolution".
I would regard this album as a good starting point along
with the current release "Black Holes And Revelations",
even though my favourite song "Citizen Erased"
is on the - also very recommendable if a bit more raw and
unpolished - album "Origin Of Symmetry"
(2001).
Muse is also regarded as an incredible live band, one of
the best live acts around these days. I can't judge that
myself yet, unfortunately. They have gained several awards
during the years from "Best new artist" (NME 2000)
to "Best Headliner" and "Best UK & Ireland"
(MTV European Music Awards 2007). You can find a list of
their awards here.
